The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, has released a notice for the Open Competitive Computer-Based Examination for recruitment to the posts of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’). Eligibility Criteria: Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’

  1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University as on or before the cut-off date i.e. 01.08.2026.
  2. Skills Requirement: Only those candidates who have skills in stenography are eligible to apply.

Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026):

  1. Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years.
  2. Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years.

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD (Unreserved/EWS): 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): 03 years after deduction of military service rendered from the actual age.
  • Central Govt. Civilian Employees (3+ years continuous service) for Group ‘C’ posts: Up to 40 years of age.
  • Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated (Unreserved): Up to 35 years of age.

Application Fee:

  • General candidates: ₹100/- (Rs One Hundred Only).
  • Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and ESM eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee.

Selection Process & Examination Scheme:

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBE):
    • Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Questions, 50 Marks)
    • Part II: General Awareness (50 Questions, 50 Marks)
    • Part III: English Language and Comprehension (100 Questions, 100 Marks)
    • Total Duration: 2 Hours (with sectional timer of 30 Minutes each for Part I & Part II and 60 Minutes for Part III).
    • Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  2. Skill Test in Stenography: This test is mandatory but qualifying in nature.
    • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Dictation will be for 10 minutes at the speed of 100 w.p.m..
    • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Dictation will be for 10 minutes at the speed of 80 w.p.m.

Apply Procedure:

  • Applications must be submitted only in online mode at the new SSC Headquarter website: https://ssc.gov.in or through the my SSC mobile application.
  • Candidates must complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website if they have not done so already.
  • For the online application, a live photograph of the candidate must be captured when prompted by the application module, unless opting for Aadhaar Based Authentication.
  • Payment of fee can be made online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
